Waiting for omnipotence

Every day a new advancement is claimed to help us crawl closer to the logical conclusion. The exuberant don't have much to say to the joyless, and vice versa. Supposedly time passes, but the curve remains asymptotic. We're almost there, forever.

It would be foolish not to hedge for the future: either we will herald God 2 (affectionate) or God 2 (derogatory). Or maybe the bubble will burst and we will be left to confront our mess without the distraction of LLMs. Regardless, it seems wise to assume that someday, there will be someone or something with the time and attention to tie up all the loose ends that are being deferred to the future: intentions with no who, concepts with no provenance, and outputs that exceed the limits of attention. Or, someday, there will be consequences for the humans who got us into this mess. Right. Right?

Maybe when the future happens we'll finally inhabit this present.
