Failbase

Photograph of the Failbase installation, showing a thermal printer and a wooden flat file cabinet.

Failbase was an installation designed for the public collection and archiving testimonies of failure. Participants submitted their failures through voicemail or text message which were printed out in the form of a receipt by a thermal printer. The anonymous receipts of failure could be browsed, annotated, and categorized into a flat file below the printer. Failbase was conceived and created by me and Nick Lally under the auspices of E.G. Crichton who invited us to be part of Archive of What’s Left Behind, a show documenting failure.
